SENIOR

World Championships – Eugene, United States of America
Following her 1500m win and 3rd place finish in the 800m at the Jamaican Championships, Adelle Tracey has been selected to represent Jamaica in both the 800m and 1500m at the upcoming World Championships in Eugene, Oregon.

South of England U20 and Senior Championships, Chelmsford

Anton Joseph won a bronze medal in the U20 mens hammer with a distance of 46.51m. Despite jumping a SB of 6.90m, Samuel Sherlock narrowly missed out on a medal in the mens long jump, finishing 4th. Jessica Hall continued her great season by vaulting a PB of 3.60m to place 5th, and 9th on the U23 UK rankings this year. In her first year as an U20, Gemma Mead threw 31.70m to finish 7th in the final of the womens javelin.

JUNIOR

England Combined Events Championships – Bedford
Jessica Howells finished 2nd in the England U15 Combined Events Championships, competing in the hexathlon. Within the competition, Jessica set new PBs in the shot putt, 75mH and 800m as well as convincingly winning her strongest event, the javelin.

English Schools Track and Field Championships

Six GGAC junior athletes were selected to represent Surrey Schools at this year’s English Schools Track and Field Championships in Manchester. Elise Christian and Jessica Howells competed in the junior girls javelin, and both made the podium, placing 2nd and 3rd with throws of 42.45m (PB) and 41.43m respectively. Samuel Sherlock won a silver medal in the senior boys long jump, jumping a PB of 7.04m – his first time over 7 metres. Also in the long jump was Bryony Bovell who finished 13th in the senior girls competition, jumping 5.19m. Elin Roberts was the only hurdler from GGAC to compete, and finished 5th in her heat in a PB of 11.71. In the junior girls 800m heats, Robin Simons finished 6th in a time of 2:22.49. Hayden Christian won a Silver medal (Under 17 400m hurdles) in a time of 53.23 seconds, setting a new club record

Congratulations to Cariad Norris for being selected by Surrey for the Inter Counties at Oxford and winning the 400m hurdles.

MASTERS

World Masters Championships – Tampere, Finland
Following her success at the European Indoor Masters Championships, Louise Wood finished a close 4th in the W55 long jump, missing out on a medal on count back. Later that same week, Louise became World Masters Champion in the triple jump, with a jump of 9.81m. In the W55 800m, Virginia Mitchell won a bronze medal with an outdoor SB of 2:25.46. Her husband, Tony Mitchell, finished in the top 10 in the M60 300mH, in a SB of 51.20.

After a bit of drama involving an in accurate measurement of the Women’s V50 Long Jump, Louise Wood was awarded the Bronze medal!

Masters International – Tenby, Wales
Following his 3rd place finish at the Richmond Half Marathon, Nick Tearle was selected to represent England Masters at the Masters International in Tenby. Nick finished 5th in the M45 half marathon race. Representing Wales, Dave Williams successfully helped the team to a first place finish in the 5km race, finishing the hilly course in 18:40.
