Success in Rio for Georgina Hermitage

Georgina Hermitage the Guildford and Godalming athlete representing GB in the Paralympics in Rio smashed her own world record when running in the final of the 100m T38 category on Friday. In the heats on Thursday she equalled her record with a time of 13.39 but in the final she was on fire and won in 13.13s.  She runs in the 400m final on Tuesday September 13th at 2.15 pm - not a convenient time for most people but hopefully they will show it again in the evening. and the 4 x 100m relay later this week.

Success at Sainsbury's UK School Games

The Sainsbury UK School Games is an annual mini Olympic style event where more than 1600 athletes from the Under 17 age group compete in twelve sports.  This year the event took place at Loughborough.

Athletics is one of the sports and there are seven teams in the competition.- N. Ireland, Scotland, Midlands, North East England, North West England, South East England and South West England.  One representative from each area is chosen for each event.

Georgina is on her way to Rio

Club member Georgina Hermitage has left England for Rio where she will be competing in the Paralympic Games. She is competing in the T37 category and she will have heats of the 100m on Thursday, September 8th and hopefully a final on Friday. On Monday 12th she will have heats of the 100m with again hopefully a final on Tuesday13th. She is then due to be a member of the 4 x 100m relay team.

WE WIN THE LILY B CUP!

The girls U17/15/13 team came out on top in the Lily B cup meeting held at Epsom on Saturday. We had finished second to Kingston and Polytechnic Harriers in the 3 meeting summer league but managed to have our revenge in the Cup. It was very much a team effort and valuable points were gathered by people obligingly filling gaps in the scoring team. There were also some good results in the non- scoring events.

Under 20 Inter Counties Competition

At Oxford on Sunday four Guildford athletes were representing Surrey in the Inter County U20 competition.  Peter Cassidy broke his own U20 Hammer Club record when he threw the 6kg implement out to 60m 97 to secure third place.  For the women Jemma Wood won the 200m final in 25.26s, Hannah Knights came second in the 400m hurdles and Cathy Coleman 7th in the hammer. 

 

Alder Valley Boys League

At Aldershot Military stadium on Sunday the boys Alder Valley team was up against teams from Portsmouth, Windsor, Jersey and the host club Aldershot, Farnham and District and did well to finish in second place behind Windsor. 

There was a clean sweep on the track in the U15 800m with Callum Burnip winning the A race in 2.16.2 and Ben Blamey the B in 2.17.7.  In the U17 age group Nathan Janmohamed won the 1500m in 4.45.2.

Southern Athletic League

In their final Southern Athletic League match of the season Guildford and Godalming Athletic Club found themselves competing at Eton against the league leaders Windsor, Slough, Eton and Hounslow who provided tough opposition and the Gees ended the afternoon in second place ahead of Poole and Fleet & Crookham.
