Ranelagh Richmond Half Marathon

Sunday the 5th of May saw round 1 of the 2019 Surrey Road League kick off with the Ranelagh Richmond Half Marathon.  With the race starting at 08:30, it’s a pretty punchy start for a Sunday, but it was a beautiful morning and about 20 degrees cooler than last year’s race, game on!The race was started by our own Ben Evans, he was warmly welcomed by the waiting runners receiving a well deserved round of applause.  Ben’s excellent book “The Road Runner”, describes this very race!

The route winds its way in a rough figure of eight from the edge of Richmond Park, passing Teddington, through Bushy Park, and taking in views of Hampton Court and the Thames on the way back North to the finish.  It’s not all sightseeing though; flat and fast it’s an ideal course for PB’s!

The Gee’s put in a great showing, a small group of 4 running together for the majority of the race; we placed well as club with plenty of new personal bests.  The race was won in 1:11:49 by Andrius Jakseviciusof Belgrave Harriers.  Thanks to Ranelagh Harriers for a well organised race, round 2 of the Road League is the Sutton 10km on the 19th of May.
