U20/17 Team wins final YDL League meeting and tops the league

The Club's combined U20 and Under 17 team had an emphatic win in their last YDL league match of the season at Portsmouth that confirmed their place at the top of the league along with promotion for next season.

They were helped to their large points total by two athletes, Hope Sarti and Hannah Knights, who four days earlier had been competing for England South in the U20 Welsh International Event.  Hope won the 100m hurdles in Cardiff and she won again on Sunday in a tight finish beating Club mate Megan Hildrew. She was also winner of the 200m in a new best of 25.7 with Jasmine Mitchell taking the B race. Hannah who had raced over the 400m hurdles in Cardiff turned her attention to the multi events competing in the long jump, javelin and 800m which she won in a new personal best of 2.19.2.   Grace Reynolds won the B race

There were many outstanding performances with two Club records being broken and two equalled.  Luke Kelly equalled the senior men's and broke the U20 men's 100m record when he dipped under 11 seconds for the first time to win the A  race in 10.9s. Megan Hildrew, in her first outdoor triple jump competition of the season, improved on her senior and U20 record by almost 40cms with a hope, step and jump  of 11m 71 to win the A event.  Jessica Hall in winning the A U17 pole vault equalled the Club record with her vault of 3m.

There were two double winners in the men's events.  Sam Cheesman won both the U20 800m and 1500m and Harry Boyd won the U17 A 800m and 400m with Adam Bator Brown making it a clean sweep by winning the B 400m race. Adam and Jonty Mitchell took the A and B 200m races with the latter setting a new lifetime best of 24.7. Other A string winners for the U17 men were Nathan Janmohamed in the 1500m, and Michael Fieldus with a new best of 5.95 in the long jump. Peter Cassidy had no problem in winning the U20 hammer with a throw of 59.68- over 30m more than the opposition. Matthew Chan won the B Shot put and the B long jump with a new lifetime best and there was a new pb for Eliot Holman who came second in the U20 B 100m in 11.4 

For the U20 women there was a clean sweep in the 400m, Emma Morley winning the A race and Jasmine Mitchell the B.  On the field Cathy Coleman and Eleanor Frame won the A and B hammer and shot with Cathy also winning the discus.

For the Under 17 women there were two double A string winners.  Zoe Macrae won the A300m and javelin and Claudia Lance Jones the 800m and 1500m with Charlotte Cole winning the B 800 with a new best and Violette Foley winning the B 1500m.  Violette went on to win her debut race in the 3000m.  Marcey Winter won the A 300m hurdles. In the jumps Tandia Pritchard won the B long and triple and Chloe Edwards set a new best of 1m 48 in coming second in the A high jump

The afternoon ended with wins for the U 20 women's 4 x100m relay ( Paris Joseph, Hall, Winter, Sarti) and 4 x 400m relay (Macrae, Mitchell, Lance Jones, Knights) and the 4 x 400m U20 men's team of Kelly, Bator Brown, Cheesman and Boyd.

Final points totals- Guildford and Godalming 611, Vale of Aylesbury 376, Ealing , Southall and Middlesex 333, Bournemouth 321, Havant and the Isle of Wight 293, Chichester 184.
