If you are a seasoned marathon racer looking to improve your PB or a new runner starting out on your first 10k, Guildford and Godalming AC is an excellent place to take your next stride forward. The club has a long tradition in distance running, having hosted the Hogs Back Road race for over 50 years, and is able to offer all its experience and advice to all who wish to take part in this most exceptional of pursuits. Road Running can be a difficult and lonely experience sometimes but with our relentlessly enthusiastic team of coaches and running leaders, and the support of fellow athletes the long miles over the pavements will seem easier and enjoyable with every step.
The club offers two evenings of training a week:
Tuesday 7pm – Spectrum Track
This is a quicker speed session utilizing the Spectrum’s excellent athletics facilities, with shorter sessions catering for 5k and 10k runners looking to improve their pace, to longer sessions for half and full marathon runners to up those minutes-a-mile. Improve your PB or just enjoy running round the track, all individuals are welcome.
Thursday 7pm: Meet at Spectrum Track
An organized run around the picturesque roads of Guildford town centre, this is a less formal training session but one that will still benefit runners of all abilities. Our running leaders will take a group on a mix of routes comprising hill climbing, fartlek (fast and slow) training and long distance endurance designed to improve all aspects of road running. We organize two separate groups where possible to encompass different paces and can offer advice and encouragement whatever your training needs. There is no better way to make those hard runs easier.
We understand that people approach road running for many different reasons, but can offer help and advice whatever your chosen path.
On Sundays Members of the club meet for ad hoc long runs on the roads and trails around Guildford. contact the senior team for further details.
Road Running League
Over the summer months Guildford and Godalming participate in the Surrey Road Running League. This is a series of Six races that take place around the county, ranging from 5ks to half marathons, which represent the Surrey Championships at their respective distances. Individual and team prizes are on offer for each race, as well as prestigious Surrey medals for the top three county representatives.
