Surrey Cross Country League – Men
Guildford’s men had their best performance of the season in the Surrey League, with a fourth place finish at Wimbledon Common. Once again, Andy Coley-Maud was our first finisher in 3rd place with John Sanderson a few places behind in 7th. Tom Foster (22nd) and Ed Dixon (43rd) were next for us, before our remaining six scorers – Callum Job, Robin Wallond, Dan Wallis, Colin High, Andrew Welch and James Harvey all packed within a minute of each other to help us to move up to 5th in the league table – with 4th easily within reach with one race to go.
The course was both a test of technique and fitness with log jumps and a small ravine to clear. In what must be the toughest ever Surrey League fixture in terms of strength in depth, our B team also finished in an excellent 5th place as we fielded 32 of the 352 runners.
Surrey Cross Country League – Women
In a change to the usual format, the ladies followed the men’s race putting the women in the limelight, additionally, the ladies took on the longer 5 mile distance. Guildford’s women also improved to fourth place after 6th & 5th in the first two fixtures. Suzie Monk led the way for us in 5th place, followed by Evie Warren (11th), Suzy Lecoutre (19th), Katie Grinyer (28th) and Alice Batchelor (58th). Our B team of Naomi Maini, Christine Robinson, Michelle Oldham, Jackie White and Laura Hales finished 6th of the fifteen B teams, with Susanna Harrison, Lucinda Smith, Beth Davies and Michelle Collins providing strong backup.
