Volunteering

The Club is run entirely by volunteers. Getting involved can be very rewarding and your time commitment is entirely up to you. We always welcome new volunteers be they parents, athletes (active or retired) or anyone who has an interest in the sport.

Volunteering opportunities are many and varied and include:

Coaching / Coaching Assistant

To assist the lead coach on a regular training evening. To inspire and encourage athletes to train and focus on achieving their potential. You might even want to become a qualified coach yourself – if so let us know and we can discuss this with you. We are always in need of more coaches.

Volunteering at home athletics meetings and club run events.

Duties are varied including catering, announcing, downloading results, setting up and moving equipment, handing out numbers to athletes. For endurance events we are always in need of marshalling on the course.

Report writing for website or social media.

Writing reports for our website and social media on events and competitions involving our athletes.

All volunteers need to complete an identification form for safeguarding purposes and sign the volunteers code of conduct. There may also be the need to undertake a DBS check depending on your volunteering role.

If you’d like to join our list of volunteers, then let us know by emailing us at [email protected] including any preferences for how you might help. We will get back to you to confirm together with any forms or checks that you need to complete.

Becoming an Official

If you enjoy athletics and want to get more involved, then becoming an athletics official can be very satisfying and enjoyable.

The club will explain what is involved and support you through the process as well as paying for any courses you attend. England Athletics also provides useful information and runs officials courses. These are either in person or online and give you a basic insight into being a qualified official such as a track judge, timekeeper, field judge or endurance official for road races and cross-country events.

There are various levels of official ranging from 1 -4. There’s no expectation that you advance beyond level 1 and the time commitment is flexible and entirely in your hands. However, if you do want to progress, we will continue to support you.If interested, please contact [email protected] in the first instance and we will get back to you. Or you may simply want more information before deciding.
