News from both ends of our membership age groups this week
Surrey Athletics Sportshall
Sportshall is an athletic indoor competition and it is a great opportunity for our U13 & U15s to compete for the club in a fun and competitive environment against other clubs based in the Surrey County.
Despite numbers being slightly scaled back this season due to COVID fears, with each club only having one team and reduced numbers, GGAC put in a brilliant performance across the board:
U13 Girls came equal 2nd by only a single point, out of 6 Teams
U15 Girls came 2nd out of 6 Teams
U13 Boys came 1st by 21 points out of 6 teams
U15 Boys came 1st , out of 3 teams
British Masters XC Silver for M55s
There was yet more XC silverware this week, with Guildford’s M55 team coming away with silver medals in their first attempt at a national championship yesterday. Dave Williams got the team off to a flying start as he finished in the top half of the field, but importantly, 3rd in the M55 category. After being out of action for a couple of months with a calf injury, Dave Renshaw had an excellent run to keep the team within touching distance of a medal place, handing over in 6th. Mark Tennyson then sliced his way through the field, running the fastest leg of the day in the M55 race, to hand over in 2nd place, just 11 seconds behind the leaders. Despite equalling Mark’s time, Terry Booth was unable to overhaul the leader on the final leg, as the team took silver – just 8 seconds away from a national title.
